Government Relations Monthly Update, ICC (Rick Bluntzer)

Happy April!!!

Here is your April issue of the ICC Government Relations Monthly Update, chalk full of news you can use:

  • FEMA’s bringing back grant funding through its popular BRIC program.
  • Bring the bling into your Building Safety Month celebrations!
  • Details for this month’s Leadership Week and Group A & B hearings in Hartford.
  • The Code Council’s offering its new data center guidelines.
  • “When Disaster Strikes” series schedule is announced.
  • How to win one of three LEGO sets during Building Safety Month.

As always, please forward this email to colleagues, chapter members and stake holders so they can get the latest ICC news. And? Have a great month!

A few administrative updates, in the spirit of  “that meeting could have been an email”…

  1. BRIC. Please see the attached ICC Pulse regarding FEMA’s Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for BRIC grants. www.iccsafe.org/bric has been updated with additional guidance for ICC members.
  2. Changes to Digital Codes Pricing/Plans. Please see the attached email regarding the new pricing for Digital Codes Premium. The new plans are called BaseProfessional and Complete. The new plans are designed to simplify the buying process and better align with customer needs by offering the same tools and features across all plans, with the primary difference being the titles included. While titles vary across plans to help customers choose the right content, all plans include the latest Code Intelligence tools and Premium Features. Each plan also provides access to all versions of included titles, past, present and future. For example, when the 2027 I-Codes are released later this year, they will be automatically added to all active Base, Professional and Complete subscriptions. For current Premium subscribers, access remains unchanged. No action is required, but they can convert one or more of their active subscriptions to the new plan offerings through their Billing page.

    2. For upcoming webinars, please see: digital-codes-webinars  There is a webinar on April 23 regarding the changes to the plans.

And a few reminders from previous updates:

  1. Building Safety Month. (2026 Building Safety Month - ICC)
    1. In case you need it, the template proclamation is attached. Check out this link to see how many have been received so far. Proclamations can be uploaded at the website or sent to Kristin O’Bryan (kobryan@iccsafe.org).
    2. Hard hats, stickers, pencils, and vests are available as giveaways for Building Safety Month activities. Chapters or organizations interested in placing an order can do so through the ICC store. Additional downloads (like coloring books) are expected to be available through the Building Safety Month website in about a week.
  2. Data Centers. Many of our jurisdictions are dealing with data center projects in the planning or development phases. Some of these projects, especially those in rural areas, are overwhelming building departments with their scale and complexity. With that in mind, NTA developed a new flyer to promote its services specific to this growing market. If you have anyone interested in talking with NTA about data centers or any third-party plan review in general, please direct them to Charles Wills (cwills@icc-nta.org) or Steven Saffell (ssaffell@icc-nta.org).
